Stuffed Beavers 2008

Castor Repletus Felix Est - A Stuffed Beaver is a Happy Beaver

2008 will see the Stuffed Beavers second appearance at the Chiang Mai Sixes with the team attempting to better their performance of being ranked as 33rd out of 33 (2007 Stuffed Beavers Report). However with the inclusion of three more teams at this tournament 33rd would be a remarkable achievement.

This year sees a very international lineup with players from England, Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda and Thailand. OK we've been economic with nationalities and residencies but it is certainly a gathering of global cricket mediocrity. However the boys are all pumped up and ready to give it their best shot.

The 2008 Squad

Chas 'Beggars' Begley

Chas "Beggers" Begley - aka the Janitor. In between his annual appearance as the SBCC's strike bowler, Chas looks after the Clubhouse, better known as Tuskers Bar to which all at the Sixes are very welcome on every night of the tournament (is this a big enough plug - Ed?). SBCC's leading wicket taker at last year's Sixes with a majestic... erm... 2 wickets

Richard "Dickster" Ford - A welcome return to Chiang Mai for the drumming maestro and gazelle-like fielder.  As big a hit in the commentary box as he is at the crease.  Brings as many teeth (at the time of writing) to the Sixes as he did to last year's tournament which has confounded many expectations.

Big Dickie Ford

'Millers' Milsom - lead guitar

Matt "Colander" Milsom - guitarist and head of banter.  Recently moved to Sydney to work on his game after becoming the first SBCC recipient of the duck badge.  Wrote himself into the SBCC record books last year by claiming the club's first ever stumping

Ian "Poohie / Young Brooker" Brookes - A debut appearance in Chiang Mai for another SBCC veteran.  Due to an administrative oversight had a trial with Warwickshire  but was turned down after it was felt he might lead Dermot Reeve and Paul Smith astray.  Extremely dangerous both on and off the pitch.

Young Brooker

Adam Barnett - if you have an emergency call this man

Adam "FIRE!" Barnett - First Sixes for the London fireman who is no stranger to Chiang Mai.  Happily, due to the collective fitness levels of the rest of the team, a specialist fielder front of and behind square....  all of it.

Colin "Bins" Brown - a debut appearance for the big man from Bermuda.  After having both his shoulders surgically re-built will likely decline the chance to bowl and concentrate on his commanding presence behind the stumps.  Has full responsibility for Butchie....

Bermuda's Barnstorming Batsman 'Bins' Brown

Gurners - has marriage improved his bowling?

Nigel "Gurners" Gurney - the opposition's friend.  Topped the ratings in 2007 for the number of extras conceded, ensuring he skippered the SBCC to the basement of the Spoon competition.  More of the same expected this year.

Phil “Spud” Gorman – Made his SBCC debut at last year’s Sixes and makes a very welcome return in 2008.  The batting powerhouse of the team and possesses a bowling action fine-tuned from years of lobbing potatoes.

Phil the Beast perhaps our only hope

The Back Up Team

Butch - expected to play a leading role at the bar

Martin “Butchie” Ray – non-playing skipper, although only qualified for that post on the water. Another debut appearance from Bermuda who is being flown in by the Tuskers Bar management and shareholders to ensure current year’s targets are hit.

Rachel “Jonesy” Jones - SBCC’s late night drinking specialist; carries on drinking long after the boys have retired. Was the last man standing at last years’ Sixes being thrown out of the Sugar Shack at 6.30am before a light breakfast at the Chedi. After a year of late night training at Jackie's Van will be looking to improve this year.

Jonesy - likely to be the Chiang Mai Sixes leading late night drinker for the second year running

Buckit Buckley eats fools for breakfast
Kristen 'Buckit' Buckley - This young Canadian makes her tournament debut as team physio. Knows as much about cricket as the rest of the team knows about knitting so should fit in well. Looks sweet and innocent but she bites!

Paul "Barty" Simpson - A debut at the Sixes for the big lad who assumes team responsibiliy for shot drinking. Barty rescues cats from trees for a living, bench presses 300 pounds and is expected to be a hit with the ladies.
Barty

Madge will ensure the team don't spill too many drinks with an intensive training program
Lianne "Madge" Barnett - Following a long and successful career in women's cricket Madge joins the Beavers as a catching coach and specialist in eye hand coordination which should ensure less drink spillage than last year. Given the Beavers poor record at catches (none in the last five years) it is assistance that is likely to prove invaluable.

At the Clubhouse

Note"the real boss" Chomchoei - Note returns as Clubhouse leader for the second year. Note will be welcoming everyone at the Sixes to Tuskers with a smile and a laugh.
Note manager of Tuskers

Gai - Best Barmaid in Chiang Mai
Gai "Chicken" Kaewlung - Gai makes her debut for Tuskers at this years Sixes although she has been involved with other establishments in the past so knows what to expect from a group of thirsty cricketers. Considered by many as the best barmaid in Chiang Mai, Gai is famous for her friendly and attentive service and she makes a mean Thaigarita

"Typhoon" Tara Srikaew - Tara makes her Tuskers Sixes debut this year. She is a pocket dynamo and pours the fastest beer in town which will be handy on Sixes week.
