Saint Georges Day in Chiang Mai

The venerated Saint George of Lydda is celebrated throughout large parts of the world on April 23rd. Legend tells os Saimt Georges battle with a mythical dragon who terrorised the inhabitants of Cyrenne in Libya demanding sheep and virgins before townsfolk were allowed to draw water from the spring. Outraged by the sacrifice of a virgin Saint George rode to the rescue. slayed the dragon and everyone lived happily ever after. 

In reality George of Lydda was a Christian nobleman who enlisted in the imperial guards to the Roman Emperor Diocletian. When the Emperor decided to purge the Christians George refused to renounce his faith and was tortured and beheaded as a result.

Saint george has been adopted as the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia.

This year Tuskers will be celebrating Saint Georges Day with a bangers, mash and onion gravy supper at just 120 baht as well as a promotion on Leo beer and gin & tonics for just 55 baht between 7 & 9pm.
