Chiang Mai Sixes 2007

The Stuffed Beavers representing Tuskers leaves the Chiang Mai Sixes after their losing campaign

The International Chiang Mai Cricket Sixes celebrated its 20th year this year and Tuskers was proud to be involved as a tournament sponsor. The Chiang Mai Sixes attracts cricketers of all standards from around the world to play in this quickfire 5 over innings form of the game. At the 2007 tournament 14 different countries were represented.

The play at this years Chiang Mai Sixes was, in the top competition was of the highest quality. Massive hitting and good bowling was seen every day and with only four outfielder teams had to be gazelle like in the field to cut off boundaries. The final produced a moment of as high drama as you are likely to see in any sport with ten runs being required off the last two deliveries the batsmen hit first a four and then a wnderful six to seal victory for the Gloucester Gipsies from England against the 2006 winners, the Cricketeers from Bangladesh. Great sport indeed.

The Sixes also supports schools cricket in Thailand and this year the product of years of effort by tournament organisers and local coaches was seen with the Thai Thevada team playing in the main competition to great acclaim.

Tuskers were not only involved in the Chiang Mai Sixes as a sponsor we also entered a team, the Stuffed Beavers. And where did we come. . . ? Well right at the bottom of the Spoon competition the lowest level of the tournament! Not that it mattered, one of the guiding principles of the Chiang Mai Sixes is 'making friends through the sport of cricket' and we certainly did plenty of that, meeting some great people from all over the world. You can read all about our disastrous cricketing campaign and many social highlights on our blog.

The Chiang Mai Sixes was truly a great experience and we hope to be back again next year as both sponsors and players.
